Silvermine Caving Adventure
A moderate 90-minute hike through pristine fynbos leads you to a subterranean adventure in the ancient caves of the Cape Peninsula.
Beneath the mountain your headlight reveals a world of sculpted sandstone: fluted, rippled walls that glow steel-blue and silver. Dark mineral streaks run down the rock like brushstrokes, and thin seams of ochre and gold trace the joints in the stone. Patches of lichen and algae glow lime and vivid emerald against the cold rock; and where water pools, the wet stones turn glossy black and mirror your light ... all creating a maginficent kaleidoscope of a hidden, underground world.
Listen for the flutter of bats in the dark overhead and merge blinking into warm sunlight for lunch with sweeping views over False Bay; and then return along the trail, through the mountain air and fynbos scents.
